Carrickfergus

Carrickfergus lies 10 miles north of Belfast. With its established and vibrant Marina, the town dates back over 1,000 years and is one of the first stops on the Causeway Coastal Route.

The historic 12th century Carrickfergus Castle is renowned throughout Northern Ireland while The Museum & Civic Centre, Andrew Jackson Cottage, US Rangers Centre and Flame-The Gasworks Museum of Ireland are all interesting attractions on offer within the area.

This tour explores the historic town of Carrickfergus, its UlsterScots connections and industrial heritage.

Depart Belfast for the short drive north along the picturesque shores of Belfast Lough to Carrickfergus.

Visit to Carrickfergus Museum and Civic Centre
Discover the long and distinguished history of the town from the Medieval period to more recent times.

Visit to Carrickfergus Castle
The nearby striking Carrickfergus Castle has greeted visitors with its fortified strength since the 12th century.

Andrew Jackson Cottage
The Andrew Jackson Cottage highlights Carrickfergus’ strong American and Ulster-Scots connections and tells the story of Andrew Jackson. Beside the Jackson Cottage is an exhibition dedicated to the US Rangers based in Carrickfergus during World War II.

Flame - The Gasworks Museum of Ireland
This unique museum is on the site of Ireland’s sole surviving coal gasworks.
